The Boys and Girls Club of Frankfort has a new facility at 231 E. Main St.
During the Oct. 30 fiscal court meeting, the court approved a lease agreement for the use of the county-owned facility that will renew annually. The annual lease amount the Boys and Girls Club will pay to the county is $2,000, with the difference between the lease amount and the average market rate for a property of that size declared as a contribution-in-kind.
Court members agreed that declaring the difference as a contribution-in-kind would offer the organization additional support for match-based grants, acknowledging that those types of donations were not easy to come by.
Franklin County Judge-Executive Michael Mueller noted that Amy Snow and her team had been working on getting the Boys and Girls Club started for months, and that utilizing the building for this purpose was “amazing.”
Snow, executive director of the Wanda Joyce Robinson Foundation and liaison for the Frankfort Boys and Girls Club, was present at the Oct. 30 meeting when the agreement was officially approved.
“It is amazing,” Snow agreed. “We started this conversation about developing a Boys and Girls Club last October. Here we are a year later, and actually have this opportunity in front of us … We are very excited about this opportunity.”
Snow stated that the facility would allow them to expand some of their operational capabilities and provide space for additional staff to help run day-to-day aspects of the club’s operation.
